THIS WEEK – CLEANING ITEMS’ WEEK – thank you

In recognition of the members in our wider community, who put up their hand and offer support to our school.

Many thanks to Carters and Placemakers. Both these local building supply companies often donate goods and provide generous discounts for our school throughout the year. Their contribution is most appreciated and in the long run allows the school to complete projects well within our means.

Jogathon: This was a fabulous event. The participation by the students, and an enthusiastic contingency of teachers and parents, made for a wonderful atmosphere of fun and togetherness. Some students managed to run around the 8km mark, which is a commendable feat in itself. Thank you very much to those families who were involved in the sponsorship aspect of this and to date the result of contribution has been overwhelming. As one parent said to me ‘ This is a great way to give to the school because it means the kids have responsibility as well’ A thought provoking comment?

I would like to thank the keen group of parents who assisted with the organisation of this, especially Bridgette Sampson who did the legwork in setting up the course. Well done everyone.

Cross Country fun runs: Both these events were very well organised and challenging for the students. Thanks very much to the staff and supporting parents for making these activities very successful and enjoyable.

Blog mis-take:  Recently I made some comments on my personal blog regarding my thoughts on the wider spectrum of education across New Zealand. It seems I have offended some school community members with these comments. I apologise if you were offended and will be more thoughtful in how I convey my thinking in future.

The Year 8 student enrolment days:  These will take place on Thursday, 9^th of September at MBS. Rodney College will be at school between 9am  – 12noon and Otamatea between 1pm – 4pm. Please contact Rodney College direct to make appointments before the 6^th September. If you are enrolling at Otamatea, please contact Lynette Allott on 431 4385 before 6^th September.

School Assembly: This Thursday at 1.45pm in the community gym. Parents are most welcome to join us in our celebration of achievements.

Maths Expo: On Friday afternoon, 3^rd September we shall be staging a Maths Expo for the wider community to come along and see the ‘what’s and how’s of Mathematics being learnt at school today. The community gym will be open between 1.30pm – 3.30pm for everyone to come along and view the displays and activities the students and teachers will have set up. We look forward to seeing you there!

Native Trees for MBS:  Well done MBS. You have earned 10 native trees for your school and we will be planting them outside PIW1 and PIW2 soon. Keep up the great recycling. Rubbish collectors – please ensure that you return the green bins to the right place. Please find one for Mrs Brook’s room. If there is paper in the small metal bins DO NOT put it in the skip.
